Welcome to my homepage
In the following lines I'll give you a short description of what's available so far. You can use the above navigation bar to browse through the pages. If you have any questions or if there's something else you'd like to tell me just drop me a line at w3@michnet.de. You can pgp-encrypt the message with my public PGP key.
Pop3spam
In the last couple of weeks I received lots of unsolicited emails (aka spam). That alone is already annoying but it's even worse if the messages are very large as well. This is especially true with a rather limited bandwidth. Hence I wrote pop3spam which connects to a POP3 server and deletes all unwanted messages "in-place". pop3spam is written and distributed under the GNU General Public License which means that its source code is freely-distributed and available to the general public.
Mutt
In section mutt you will find various information about the mail user agent mutt; one of the best MUAs in existence. At first glance new users often find mutt somewhat poor looking. But don't let this first impression fool you. Mutt is extremly powerful and can be used very efficiently. I put together some stuff to ease the configuration as well as some other hopefully useful things.
Brainfuck
I recently learned the Standard ML programming language and wrote a couple of rather small programs. One of them was an interpreter for the esoteric programming language Brainfuck. I've also written an interpreter in C which even does some slight optimizations.
Exprt
exprt is a little program I wrote some time ago when I used to use Windows. It's a VBA add-in which cracks the password protection of workbooks and worksheets in Microsoft Excel 97/2000. I did a few tests with Excel XP and it removed the worksheet protection as well, although it took more time. Unfortunately, workbook protection couldn't be removed. It's freeware and you can also download the source code.
Vpn
On the 1st of September 2002 I began studying Angewandte Informatik at Fachhochschule Zweibrücken. Since I already had a Laptop equipped with a Wireless LAN card I wanted to take advantage of the available WLAN. The FH uses VPN software from Cisco. Unfortunately, the description on how to setup the Cisco VPN client was only available for Windows and since I didn't want to use Windows I had to do it on my own. During the installation and configuration process I encountered some pitfalls one might be faced with. To make it somewhat easier for other Linux users I decided to write this manual which covers the installation and configuration of the Cisco VPN client for Linux for use with Wireless LAN and Wired LAN at Fachhochschule Zweibrücken.
PGP-key
If you want to tell me something that not everyone should know or if you have just a little paranoid disposition, go grasp my public pgp key and encrypt the message with it. In fact, encrypted mail is very welcome since I do believe in the privacy of letters and since it is trivial for third parties to eavesdrop SMTP traffic.
Deutsch
Collection of interesting links (German) about the misuse of the German language. This is mainly "Denglisch", the extensive use of "Innen", and the notorious apostrophe.
Qwerty vs. qwertz
I wrote a small article which discusses why the qwerty keyboard layout is in my opinion better suited for certain users than the qwertz layout which is very common in Germany and Austria.
